Now that my kids are ALL in school, I’m finding my time from 8 to 3 is all about me.

ME ME ME.

And as you can guess, I’ve got zero guilt over it. (ps- Moms, it’s ok to take care of YOU. If you can’t do that, then how can you give your best to your family?

And truthfully, it’s easier to balance it all when you are coming from a good place. Take care of YOU!).

Atkins: Time to Focus on Me

I’m putting the time alone to good use by working smarter, following up on some long ignored projects, and making sure I’m getting my weight loss house in order.

I’ve been holding steady at the same weight for a few months, and it’s time to make some extra efforts for change.

Training: well, it’s pretty outside.

But that’s about all I have to say that’s GOOD about that aspect.

I started focusing on food as well this week. And food is the key to weight loss for me.

And GAH, this is the part that can be so hard for me.

My friends at Atkins know the drill, and they came to my rescue by sending me a meal kit for review. It made starting with Atkins a breeze since it came with 28 individual servings.

Atkins BREAKFAST

The Atkins meal replacement shakes are perfect when I’m getting the kids out the door to school.

I’ll throw one in a blender with a cup of ice, stick a straw in the cup, and off to drop off we go.

15 grams of protein: BOOM.

They are also delicious on their own, but I prefer mine chilled and cold as possible.

Hey, it’s Arizona, and it’s still 100+ here!

When I wasn’t in a rush last week, I had other breakfast choices as well.

Quick, easy Atkins approved meal and full of protein.

 

Atkins LUNCH

It rocked with choices of beef (or chicken) with lots of veggies.

I love veggies- as long as I don’t have to cut them and clean them and, oh yeah, cook them.

I’m the worst when it comes to cooking veggies correctly!

The ones that came with the frozen meals were cooked just right, as long as I didn’t over-do the microwave time on them.

When I went a bit long on time, they ended up mushier than I prefer. So watch out for that!

Atkins Dessert: SOMETHING SWEET

Yeah, even when I’m trying to eat better, that sweet tooth sucker makes an appearance.

The Atkins meal replacement bars solved the problem for me. Instead of reaching for the cookies my kids made this weekend, I reached for one of those.

If 16 grams of protein covered in chocolate is wrong, I don’t want to be right!

Atkins DINNER

This is where I dug into the Atkins 40 menus and recipes and found meals that took a little more work.

It was also the perfect opportunity to involve the kids in meal planning and healthy lifestyle discussions.

Stuffed Jalapeno Poppers- delish!

 

My overall impression of the kits is that they are super convenient and a great way to start my journey to finding my #HappyWeight.

The kit I tried was $97.99 for a week of meals, and it made planning for the week a cinch!

Focusing on me isn’t always easy, but that’s in part why I started this blog in the first place. I wanted to have space where I can express myself and work on myself and find myself.

So it’s all about ME for a little while, and working out and eating better is a huge part of this.

Nothing wrong with a little me time- at least until the kids get home!

Thanks for this post!! My favorite easy weeknight to the rescue meal is a pound of ground meat of choice browned, add a bag of frozen southwest veggies and a packet of Siete carnita or taco seasoning. so yummy and kills the craving for tacos and nachos grande! Add jalapenos and or olives if you like! I'm dairy free or I would add sour cream and or guac. Enjoy!

any tips on dialing the cravings down? I've also read that when on low carb diet we should avoid doing cardio as that increases the cravings to another new level...what do you think of that?

Increased cravings by doing cardio: this was not my experience! After 2-3 days, I don't have cravings (and I can run and still not have them!). I made sure I had items like Lily's Chocolate (low net carbs) and Keto cheesecake on hand to get me through the cravings I might have.

Hey Patty,

I've sort of tried keto diet before and with my limited info i think keto and atkins are somewhat similar, correct me if im wrong.

Also, how does one cope up with all the cravings you get going with a low carb diet?

They are somewhat similar in that you are limiting carbs both ways. But Keto is more restrictive. As far as cravings are concerned, I won't lie, the first 2-3 days are spent on the struggle bus!

After that, shockingly, it kinda goes away. At least my desire for all the sweet things does. If I eat something sweet it's because I chose to do it rather than feeling like I "need" it if that makes sense.
