Local Races To Love

This one’s going to be short and sweet.

Since I’m new to the area, I have nothing to report on here!

Washington DC/Virginia

I have a dream to someday be fast enough to sign up for the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler.

While I knew I’d be here for it, I also knew I wouldn’t make the time cut off so I didn’t enter the lottery. However, I did get into the lottery for the 5K. Which is right where I need to be at this point anyway.

Maybe.

I’m just not sure I’ll be able to run it. My dang IT band isn’t loving me right now, and my C25K program has taken a small break. #WhompWhomp

Could it happen in 2 weeks? Probably. But I’m trying to stay out of PT for the next 6 months, so I’m going to just see how things are feeling over the next couple of days.

I am obsessed with these blossoms. Ob. Sessed.

Sounds like most survived the cold and snow, so we’re planning on hitting the monuments by the Tidal Basin this week. Fingers are crossed that I get a view like this one soon!

Arizona

What races did I like in Arizona? I enjoyed the Phoenix Marathon (I ran the half) weekend a lot.

If you are looking for a well supported slightly downhill race with fantastic weather in Arizona: this is your PR, folks!

Any folks run DC recently who have recommendations for races? Shout them out!

  1. Would you believe that the Cherry Blossom race is one of the few local races i’ve never run??? Some day…

  2. Erika Rodkey says:

Army Ten Miker is one of my favorites for D.C. I used it for POT for Disney multiple times. The crowd support us fantastic and always gives me the mental boost I need to run faster.

  3. I also want to do Cherry Blossom some day. I entered the lottery a few years ago but didnt get in. Most years I forget to enter. Maybe next year I’ll try again!

  4. My AZ race wasn’t downhill. Crazy huge hill, in fact, and a few more thrown in for giggles & grins. It was still a great race!

I have a chance to tackle a downhill race not once, but twice this year!

  5. All you DC ladies make these runs sound so great! The cherry blossoms look gorgeous. Maybe someday!!

  6. That Cherry Blossom race has to be amazing! I love that 10 mile distance too- I hope you get to run it!

  7. I’d love to do that Cherry Blossom 10 miler!

  8. I have heard great things about the Phoenix marathon. I eve knew someone that BQ there.

  9. That Cherry Blossom is on my bucket list! The course sounds beautiful, and I love the 10-mile distance.

  10. I’m so happy most of the blossoms survived the cold snap. These poor trees! they don’t know what season it is.

  11. Oh… I hope your IT issue gets better soon!

  12. I really want to do the Cherry Blossom race one year! We are about 3 hours from DC. The timing hasn’t worked for me yet. I did get into the Broad Street Run in Philly this year which is a huge one and also has a lottery! So excited about that!

  13. Love the Cherry Blossom Run when the weather’s just right! I hope you feel well enough to do the 5K! My sister ran it a couple of years ago and enjoyed it.
