You might have caught onto this already, but we are a road tripping family. Short and long distances are our jam!

I use the hashtag #HollidayRoad on Instagram (invoking my last name and the famous song) while we are on the road. Which happens a lot, especially during the summer months.

We’ve got another road trip this weekend as we head out to Tucson for a family reunion. A weekend of golf, bowling, and laughs with our extended family is the perfect way to wind down our summer travels.

As a road-tripping family, we’ve got a few favorites in Arizona that we like to hit up. Be sure to take notes and put them on your travel bucket list!

THE GRAND CANYON

This should be top on your list. Period the end.

It’s fantastic and gorgeous, and we never tire of visiting this national park.

If you go, be sure to check out these safety tips.

The sunrise from the South Rim is one beautiful sight!

SEDONA AND SLIDE ROCK

If there is heaven on earth, I think it looks like Sedona.

The sunsets, the red rocks, the temperature?year-round… sigh… divine.

Slide Rock State Park is located just outside of Sedona and is a fantastic place for the family to cool off!

We visited a few times last year, and my kids?vote this as their favorite place in Arizona.

TUCSON

This is a family-friendly city in the southern half of the state.

Here you will find old time cowboys and beautiful mountains.

Our favorite place to go when we visit is Mount Lemmon. It’s got a great observatory at the top, and plenty of wood to explore and hike.

PHOENIX

The biggest city in the state also provides the most options for a family road trip.

You have museums, mountains, professional sports, top rated golf and resorts all over the city.

You don’t want to miss spending time in the bedroom community of Scottsdale, and I highly recommend taking in a Diamondbacks ball game while in town.

Because: the Churro Dog.

A warm cinnamon churro sitting inside a Long John chocolate-glazed donut, which is then topped with frozen yogurt and caramel and chocolate sauces.

YES.

ROUTE 66

It’s historic, and it’s so worth the trip!

Get your kicks on Route 66 when you are in the state. This is the ultimate road trip destination.

A highlight? Stopping by Winslow Arizona and seeing the girl in the flatbed Ford slowing down to take a look at you.

My father and uncle took an epic road trip on Route 66 last summer as they were both 66-years-old for ten days. They jumped in the Corvette and made grand memories together.

TIPS

These road trips take some preparation. Here are the best tips I can give to you:

  • Be sure to take snacks! Lots of them- a hungry crew is an unhappy one.?
  • Print out directions. I know we all rely on technology these days, but sometimes you can’t get a signal. Go ahead and have a paper copy just in case.?
  • Service your vehicle. Check the tires, make sure the AC is working, and get the oil changed.

Before we go out on the road, we make sure to stop by Walmart and let the experts take care of the ol’ Vader Van.

And by ol’, I mean… old.

My 2008 Honda with 130,000 miles is still taking us places, and I give a huge shout out to?Pennzoil? High Mileage Vehicle? for keeping us on the road.

This oil is a life saver for my van; it helps clean the sludge other oils may have left behind and contribute to reducing leaks & oil consumption in vehicles with high mileage.

If your car’s engine has more than 75,000 miles on it, this might be the oil for you.

Before you hit the road, find your Walmart?s Automotive Care Center?and get your Pennzoil oil change.

The prices have even been rolled back this summer: normally the Hile Mileage oil change costs $39.88, but it’s on Rollback to $35.88 until September 28.

Is your family hitting the road this summer? What are your favorite road trip destinations?

My sister just moved to Arizona so I'm hoping to get out there sometime to visit. I think that Churro dog just sold me on a Diamondbacks game though!

Very helpful since we're planning to visit Sedona before my half in Oct.

My car is a 2000, but with half the mileage -- cause we don't road trip with it (we do that with my husband's newer car).
