This Disney loving mom is excited about the newest release so I’m sharing A Wrinkle In Time PDF Activity Sheets today! A Wrinkle In Time movie hits theaters on March 9th. Most of us grew up reading this book and wonder if our kids should see it? Is A Wrinkle In Time movie kid-friendly? Here’s why the family needs to go: A Wrinkle In Time parent movie review with free printable PDF activity sheets.
I took my 11-year-old son to the advanced screening of A Wrinkle In Time movie last night.
While this movie is hailed as a “girl-power” film, he was the kiddo most excited by the trailer when we saw it earlier this year, so naturally, he became my date for the screening!
Within the first few minutes of the movie, it was clear that his age demographic is perfect for this movie. He was laughing and loving the characters early on, and at the end of the movie had a big smile that lasted the whole ride home.
Whenever a new Disney movie comes out, parents ask if it’s safe for kids. I’d have to say that A Wrinkle In Time movie is safe for kids- mostly. I do have some age reservations.
Here’s my answer to the questions you have about the age appropriateness of A Wrinkle in Time movie along with A Wrinkle In Time movie review for parents.
A Wrinkle In Time Movie Review For Parents
A Wrinkle In Time movie is rated PG and I think that’s the perfect rating for this one.
Is A Wrinkle In Time kid-friendly? I think it depends a lot on your kid!
There are some high-level science related plot points that might go over some kids’ heads and a turn of events that I’d caution for the under 8 crew (see details below), but otherwise, it’s a fun family movie that should get your entertainment dollars this weekend.
I’ve added some bonus fun at the end of this post: print your A Wrinkle In Time PDFs family activity sheets for after the movie!
A Wrinkle In Time Movie Acting
I’m starting here because I loved all the performances. Everyone is great in this movie!
Newcomer Storm Reid was perfectly cast as the awkward and brainy Meg who lacks confidence since her dad disappeared.
The three Mrs. were, of course, perfection- though I wish they were somehow given even more time on screen. Because: Oprah, Resse and Mindy. Duh. I especially wanted more of Mrs. Who (Mindy Kaling).
Chris Pine does Chris Pine things (swoon!) and even though I was a little mad at his character, I think he played the pivotal father figure perfectly.
Zach Galifianakis has a wonderful turn that isn’t all comedy; I was so thrilled to see his Happy Medium performance. He’s really good, y’all!
But my personal favorite actor in the movie was Levi Miller, who plays Calvin. Just like in the book, I was drawn to this character the most. He also felt the truest to the book for me, and I think his performance was the purest of the movie.
The kids were allowed to remain kids in this movie, which is rare and sweet and light- and I love director Ava DuVernay a whole lot for allowing them to stay age appropriate. She deserves all the applause coming her way for this movie!
A Wrinkle In Time Movie Visuals and Costumes
You can go ahead and mark up a 2019 Oscar ballot now: these costumes are legit.
Flowing, powerful, and stunning: I couldn’t take my eyes off the three Mrs. whenever they were on screen.
The make-up was also impressive and I wanted to go out and buy #alltheglittereyeshadow I could find. And I am not a glitter eyeshadow girl, but if it made me as powerful as Oprah, yeah, I’ll buy it!
A Wrinkle In Time Movie Review
I’m one of those people that read the book as a child and remember loving the story. Meg was such a great character and I adored Calvin.
But to be honest: that’s all I could remember from those early years.
So I re-read it recently and I came away thinking, whoa, this is kinda weird.
The movie left me with the same feelings. But this might just be me and my tendencies to over analyze things; so if you loved the book, you will likely enjoy the movie!
No question: this movie is made for kids to enjoy, not adults who try to find logic in all the things— so please take them to the movies this weekend.
Is A Wrinkle In Time Kid Friendly? Parent Movie Review
Since this movie was based on the Newbery award-winning novel by Madeleine L’Engle, you can expect A Wrinkle In Time movie to be kid-friendly and appropriate overall. Yay for PG rating!
That being said, the movie does have some moments that a sensitive child might need to be prepared for.
Ages 12 and up: go without reservation! In fact, I think kids this age need to see this movie for the life messages director Ava DuVernay skillfully weaves throughout. Everything I found odd in this movie they will find wonderful; so get those tickets and take the teens and tweens.
Ages 8 to 11: Take ’em. This is the age that will enjoy the pure whimsy and light of the movie the most. My son thought the movie was fantastic (and weird, but that’s what he liked about it!).
Ages 7 and under: Here’s where I say proceed with caution. You know your kid & family dynamic best, so you know what might bother them more than I do. 90% of the movie is light and wonderful and I wouldn’t have any concerns. But there is a dark turn that the youngest actor takes which *could* be stressful for a child in the same age range. This happens about 3/4 of the way through the movie and you’ll know it when you see it. It may not bother some kids at all as it’s not “scary” in a physical form, but more psychologically fearsome. If your child is deeply sensitive, I’d possibly prescreen the movie or plan to distract with a bathroom break if needed. Even if they don’t see the movie, be sure to take advantage of the Wrinkle In Time PDF activity sheets included at the bottom of this post. They will love the games and the coloring sheets!
