What Is Father’s Day?
According to NationalToday.com:
Father’s Day has its origins in medieval Europe when Catholics dedicated a day to honoring fathers, fatherhood, and all paternal relationships.
In the US, it wasn’t officially recognized until the mid-1960s.
President Lyndon Johnson signed a proclamation calling for Father’s Day to be celebrated on the third Sunday of June in 1966.
President Nixon signs a law in 1972 that makes Father’s Day an official holiday.
The backbone of the family and source of the quirky dad jokes we all know and love is celebrated on Father’s Day on June 16 this year.
Ways To Celebrate Dad On Father’s Day
Buying gifts for Dad may not be the easiest thing in the world. At least, that’s not been the case in our family.
They don’t love ties, no matter how much we all think a new tie works perfectly. Watches are the same deal. We’ve even tried socks and running shoes in the past.
And, really, how many golf balls do they actually need?
If this sounds like your house, we’ve got some suggestions.
Maybe consider some experiences or delicious food ideas to help celebrate his big day.
We suggest things like:
- taking him out to his favorite restaurant
- letting him show off his BBQ skills if that’s his love language
- hitting up some banger movies at the theater. We suggest Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse and The Flash if he’s into superheroes, Fast X or Transformers: Rise of the Beasts if he’s into cars, and Air if he’s all about that sports life.
- check out this easy Father’s Day gift box for the new dad
- get tickets for that sporting event he’s been eyeing (we bought Premier League summer tour tickets for the Ted Lasso-loving dad in our house!)
But a never-fail Father’s Day gift is the handmade card or All About Dad printable packet that Dad can hang proudly on the fridge or frame and take up to work with him.
Dads LOVE these from kids- especially a few years down the road when they come across them and remember just how precious those early days of fatherhood were.
