We’re huge travel fans, and one of our bucket list locations is New York City for Christmas. Yes, we’re dreaming of a white Christmas in NYC.
There’s so much to see, but Radio City Music Hall is high on that list!
Until we can make window shopping at Macy’s a reality, we will settle for watching some of the best New York Christmas movies with our best friend.

- Home Alone 2: Lost In New York. The prince of Christmas movies, a young Macaulay Culkin as Kevin McCallister, stars in this one. And Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as the bad guys.
- Rent. Starts on Christmas and ends on Christmas. (Yes, it counts- ps, so does Die Hard, ha!)
- Eloise at Christmas Time. She lives in the Plaza Hotel- it doesn’t get more
- The Family Man. Nick Cage is a successful Wall Street executive who discovers
- Dash & Lily
- Trading Places. While Philly is the central location, the finale (and what a finale it is!) brings you to New York City at Christmastime. It’s one of the lowkey best Christmas movies in New York.
- When Harry Met Sally. Two best friends who become New Yorkers celebrate all seasons, including Christmas together.
- Elf. Don’t be a ninny muggins– you know this is the funniest holiday movie!
- Miracle on 34th Street– nominated for 1948 Best Picture at the Oscars!
- Scrooged (1988)– a classic Bill Murray Christmas Carol tale.
- Serendipity. John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale star in this holiday film.
- A Very Murray Christmas (2015)
- It Happened on 5th Avenue
- Ghostbusters 2. The finale is on New Year’s Eve, but the entire lead-up gives you a healthy dose of NYC at Christmas.
- New Year’s Eve
- Mistletoe Over Manhattan
- Santa Claus: The Movie (1985)
- The Night Before (2015). You’ve got Seth Rogen, Joseph Gordan-Levitt, and Anthony Mackie having one last big Christmas adventure together. It’s awesome.
- You’ve Got Mail. Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks- we love to see it.
- Spirited (2022)– filmed in Boston, but through movie magic, it’s set in New York on Christmas Eve. Stars Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.
- It’s a Wonderful Life– yes, this one isn’t in NYC but it IS set in Bedford Falls in New York state. And it’s a must-watch every year!
