DietBet: Week 2 Update
I am not going to lie: this week was a lot harder than Week 1 of the DietBet.? Anyone else have that same experience?
When we started I was full of positivity, maybe even arrogance.? I was all- I’ve got this! No problem… 4%.? pfffffftttt.? It’s simple, right?

But the truth is, 4% is hard, y’all!? A lot harder than you might think.? Okay, maybe just a lot harder than I thought?? I am soooo weak, y’all!
Exercise
The running and the weight lifting went well.? So there’s that.? As far as exercise was concerned, I exceeded my expectations.? Huzahh!? I’m going into this week feeling like I’ve got a groove going on there.? Feeling strong and happy with the efforts.
Rah Rah Rah!? Go Shenanigans Go!?
Of course this week is a bit of a challenge in itself as I’ll be at Walt Disney World, and I’m not planning on following my program.? You read that right.? Yes, there are gyms I could go to.? And running paths I could cover.? But I’m one of those crazy park commando types that hit the parks at Rope Drop (that’s gate opening for those of you normal people who sleep in during a vacation) and push it until closing if possible.? That means I get my money’s worth out of my tickets, for sure.? But it also means I’m pretty much toast by the end of the day and NOT going to add any additional exercise in.
Frankly, I’m way ok with this plan.? I suspect we will cover 10+ miles every day in the parks.? That’s way more than I would do at home.? It should be sufficient as far as activity is concerned to keep me in check.?? And if I do feel the need to do anything extra, I’m staying at one of the nicest resorts for running.? I have that option if I need it.
Food
The week started off well.? I tracked in My Fitness Pal.? I was staying within my calorie goals on a daily basis.? I felt comfortable with the amount of protein I was taking in vs carbohydrates.? I was on track for a great week.
And then came Friday.? And Saturday.? And it sucked.? And it was completely avoidable.
Here’s how my mornings go: get up (usually late), rush to get the kids off to school, complete any errands as needed, and head home.? Once home I work on the blog and write, respond to emails, do the social media thing, etc.? Or, less likely, (hey, I’ll admit it!) I clean the house and work on things like laundry and cleaning bathrooms.? Either activity tends to draw me in and I focus solely on those tasks.
Annnndddd…. I forget to eat.? #WhompWhomp
With my body, I’ve learned that doing the 5-7 small meals a day is the key to losing weight.? The whole “feed the machine and keep it running steadily” thing.?? It works.? But you know what doesn’t work?? NOT feeding the machine.?? Ugh.? Even worse, when I did realize I needed to eat I did fuzzy calorie math.
If Shenanigans hasn’t had ANY calories yet today, then surely, she can afford a 600 calorie slice of chocolate cake.? Yummy.?? And, oh yeah, now that we’ve had sweets, wouldn’t something salty be great to balance that out?? Math was NOT my strong subject in school, y’all.
Holla, chips!
And it just snowballed from there.? As I knew it would.? It wasn’t pretty.
You’re probably thinking… what’s not pretty about that?? You’d be surprised.? It actually wasn’t all that good.? Except for the cake.? That one WAS all that and a bag of chips.? And any one of these items would have been FINE for me to eat.? But all of them?? In the course of 24 hours?? Not good.? Not good at all.?? When you combine it with the realization that it didn’t even taste all that great, well, there’s the definition of wasted calories.
However, I got back on the ball Sunday.? Day by day, y’all.
I’ve lost 41% in 2 weeks.? It’s not quite enough to be on track to win the DietBet, but it’s close.? I’ll get there.? With a little faith, trust, and pixie dust.
Future Games
Despite having a bit of a struggle this week, I’m going to start TWO games next month.? I’ll set up the games on the DietBet website shortly and be sure to tell you all about it.? One game will be a lower stakes game for those that are still not comfortable with betting too much that the scale will move.? I get it.? It’s scary and hard.? So if you need a smaller stakes game to try it out, I’m going to offer one.
On the other hand, if you need some, let’s say, EXTRA motivation?? There will be another larger bet available for people who think maybe $20 isn’t enough to motivate them to get it together.? Maybe you need a little bit more on the line to stay on track.? I’ll have you covered too.
The cool thing is: you can join BOTH DietBets if you want.? DietBet allows you to play in up to 3 games at one time.? If the weigh-ins are close to each other (mine will be the same day), you can also use the same weigh in picture for all three games.? The way I see it, if you are planning to win 1 game, why not plan to win 2??? So keep that in mind if you are looking for some additional summer motivation.? DietBet is a fun and social way to get the scale moving.? I’m on this journey and would love to have you with me if you need it!
Disclosure: I am working with Diet Bet and will receive compensation for hosting the game.
UPDATE:? Here’s the $30 game– go ahead and sign up when you are ready.??? And here’s the $10 game.?? Share with your friends, family, co-workers, etc to make the pot GROW!
How was your week on the DietBet?? Did you have a better week than me?? What’s your best tip for losing the weight while on vacation?
