Is the Disney Dining Plan Worth It?
This is the age old question – and the best answer I have is… it depends!
If you are wondering if you will save a lot of money on your vacation, I’d say do the math based on the reservations and locations your family plans to eat at.
Certain locations will give you a bigger bang for your Disney Dining plan credit buck. This post from the Disney Food Blog on maximizing your Disney Dining credits is a great place to start.
Usually we decide to use it for convenience reasons, not because it’s a huge cost saver. I like my vacation to feel like a vacation and not to worry about costs when the kids want (another) snack or we sit down at the dinner table.
Plus there’s 6 of us, so when we sit down for a meal, we know that bill at the end of the night is going to be steep! So its best to avoid it.
Knowing we have credits and how to use them takes some of the drama out of a family vacation for us, so we typically go ahead and add it to our package.
Running the numbers, I know we’ve never overspent by utilizing the plan (meaning, we definitely get the most out of each credit!) and since I am a resort mug hoarder, it all works out in my favor.
But your mileage may vary, of course.

I tried out the Dining Plan with alcohol and it was amazing! I could even get a $16 Patron margarita with a quick service credit at Epcot! Will have to reevaluate whether or not the DDP is worth it for us.
