I’ll be the first to admit it: veggies are not my thing.
Wait, scratch that.
That’s kinda a lie. I actually love veggies, but getting them into my diet on a regular basis is not my thing. ?Preparation can be tricky when it comes to cooking them and I’m pretty hopeless in the kitchen.
Carrots? Sure. A salad? You betcha. Avocados on errrrything, please. The occasional mushroom or sliced tomato happen as well.
But that’s about as far as my veggie routine goes.
When I was invited to check out the Veggie Blends at Smoothie King I’ll admit I was both excited and terrified at the prospect. I know tons of us runners love smoothies (raising hand here!) and many add interesting things like spinach or kale to their daily protein shakes. ?It’s a great way to sneak extra nutritional value into your body.
That’s not something I’m comfortable with, exactly. Mostly because kale freaks me out.
I have no reason or science behind this. I’ve just avoided it ever since I heard of it.
Hey, I’ve been way ok without kale in my life for the past 42 years, so if it’s not broke, why fix it?
Why? ?Because you are trying to be healthier, Shenanigans. And nutrition is a KEY component to that wellness plan of yours!
I reminded myself that I once avoided avocados and,?I now I have a true veg-mance with them, so I should make the adult decision to give a smoothie with kale a try.

I went for the Carrot Kale Dream, even though the Veggie Avocado Pineapple was tempting. It’s a new blend that looks like it’s right up my alley. ?I have a big thing for pineapple, especially in my drinks.
Funny enough, pineapple is another food I avoided for way too long and now it’s one of my favorite flavors.
I’m weird, I know. This is not new.
So back to losing my kale virginity with Smoothie King.
My verdict? Y’all, this kale thing may look a little weird, but it tastes delish! At least, it does when it’s blended with carrots, banana, orange juice, apple juice and vanilla protein blend.
Drink yo Veggies, people. This is an easy way to slip in those vital vegetables that we all need in our diets.
