Step-by-Step Process for Playing Fantasy Football on Yahoo Sports
This guide is really for anyone who wants to learn how to play Fantasy Football.
So far, there are no “Taylor Swift Rules” or anything like that. But I know many Swifties are interested in football now, so I wanted to pass along a fun way to get involved.
What is Fantasy Football? Here’s our Fantasy Football for Swifties 101.
Essentially, you build a team from players around the league. Your goal is to build the best team from players throughout the league in the hopes to score the most points.
Your Quarterback may be an Eagle, but your defense could be the 49ers.
Having a lot of different players to pay attention to makes Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays a bit more fun!
- Create a Yahoo Account:
- Go to Yahoo Sports.
- If you don’t already have a Yahoo account, click on “Sign Up” and follow the prompts to create one.
- Join or Create a League:
- Once logged in, navigate to the Fantasy Football section.
- You can either join a public league or create your own. For Swifties, creating your own league with friends is a fun way to stay connected. Whoever starts the league is called the Commissioner and they can set up specific rules for your team.
- Set Up Your League:
- Customize your league settings, including the number of teams, draft type (snake or auction), and scoring settings. Make sure everyone is on board with the rules. This is a good time to agree upon stakes as well. A big part of the Fantasy Football fun is making the league loser do something particularly embarrassing. You may want to nail that down up front!
- Draft Your Team:
- Participate in the draft at the scheduled time. You’ll select players for your team in rounds, similar to how NFL teams draft rookies.
- Use Yahoo’s draft tools to help you make informed decisions.
- You can also Auto-Draft, which means Yahoo will do the picking for you. This is helpful if you are not sure who is a good player for each position or if you are unavailable on draft day to do it live.
- Manage Your Team:
- Each week, set your starting lineup. Yahoo provides projections to help you decide who to play. Don’t forget to look for injured players and replace them!
- Keep an eye on the waiver wire for potential player additions. Depending on league rules, you may be able to replace someone underperforming with a better player.
- Compete Each Week:
- Your team will compete against another team in your league each week. Scores are based on the real-life performances of the players on your roster.
- Touchdowns, yards rushed, yards received, interceptions, etc will all have a point value. The more points your team puts up, the better your chance of winning that week.
- Stay Active and Have Fun:
- Engage with your league through the message board, trades, and friendly banter.
- Enjoy the season and embrace the ups and downs of fantasy football.
