Since I’m from Texas and currently live in Arizona, you might have gone this route with that headline.
Relax. I haven’t gone that overboard with things. I’m talking food prep for the week. I’m VERY new at this so these are just baby steps. I’m quite aware there are pros out there like Lindsay with the Lean Green Bean. I’m nowhere near that level of commitment! But you have to start somewhere and I’m ready to start.
Yes, I’m proud of my minor accomplishments! I grilled a bunch of chicken breasts to make lunches this week. I have tuna salad and egg salad (with non-fat mayo!) mixed up. Hummus and guacamole for dipping. Brown rice, cut up veggies and fruits are good to go!
I love the way fresh cooked food tastes, but I always leave cooking to the last minute. I never remember to set meat out to defrost in the mornings. I hate defrosting in the microwave. I’m always rushing last minute to throw a meal together. I have no plan. No plan leaves to bad things, people.
You know what I think is so funny about fast food? The name. Come on- it takes almost as much time to load kids in the car, drive to the restaurant, get everyone’s orders, and wait for the food to arrive. Then we drive back home and unload and finally eat. It probably takes us 20-25 minutes MINIMUM to hit a drive through here. So… what the heck, right? It ain’t fast and it really ain’t food.
Yesterday I cooked, I washed, I chopped, and I made lunch items for Mr. Shenanigans and myself. Like I said, it’s a start. Next week I’m going whole hog and following instructions from Diary of a Fit Mommy. This sounds like something that would really help my need for control and organization. And she says it doesn’t take too long. That, I’m not buying. But it will be worth it in the end.
Here’s my happy little boxes of sunshine waiting for me this week. When I’m hungry, I can reach for this rather than hit the way too close-by Mc Donald’s. Or at least that’s my hope. Like any addict, one day at a a time, right?
