Last month I realized that I’d be turning 40 years-old right after the Princess Half Marathon weekend.? I’m lucky that my birthday falls around the Princess weekend and I take great joy in celebrating at Walt Disney World.? Over the past 3 years I’ve celebrated with special dinners at the Most Magical Place on Earth.? But this time it had to be something REALLY good.
I mean, 40.? That’s a thing, right?
As far as dinners are concerned, I’ve hit up some of the biggies:? California Grill, Cinderella’s Royal Table, and Be Our Guest.? One year I was treated to the Keys to the Kingdom Tour (awesome!) and last year I had an early present at Tinker Bell with the Walk In Walt’s Footsteps Tour.? I was stumped for ideas for this trip.? I wanted it to be something new, something special, and something most of my friends, the DisBroads, could afford to do as well.
Luckily, I know where to go when I need answers to tough questions.? Help me, Disney Parks Moms Panel,? you’re my only hope!
Pirates and Pals?!? BRILLIANT!? Now, why didn’t I think of that?? Oh… maybe that’s why she made the Moms Panel and I didn’t.? Ha.? Anywhooooo…. so I took a quick head count and called in for a reservation.? And got nada.? Zip.? Nothing.? It was all booked up.? #SadTrombone
I pretty much forgot about things after that.? Tinker Bell, moving, whatnot… life got busy.? Luckily, my friends did NOT forget about me.? With the help of another awesome Moms Panelist, Lauren, they put together the perfect plan.
And the beauty of it?? They told me NOTHING.
Y’all.? I don’t like secrets.? I was the kid who knew exactly what I was opening every year at Christmas because I was a snoop.? I hate being surprised.? Even before my own surprise party in 7th grade I made one of my friends spill the beans.? The DisBroads know this about me- and used it to torture me.
No one would tell me a thing.? Cold, y’all.? Real cold.
About a week before we got to Walt Disney World, the DisBroads told me to keep Friday night open.? They had something planned.? “What was planned,” I asked.? “You’ll find out,” I was told.? Geesh.
A whole week.
I tried to play it all cool. I didn’t ask too many questions.? But I had to try, right?
What do I need to wear?? Would I be on my feet or sitting down? Will I need dinner before or after?? Will it be cold or hot?
I got answers, but still no solutions to the riddle.? I was feeling a little like this:
The time finally arrives when “someone” would come and pick me up from my room.? This was all I had been told.? I didn’t know if Mickey himself was showing up (hey, it could happen- hint for next year Broads!) or if it would be a singing telegram or what.? Um, no one came.? #WhompWhomp.? The Broads were running behind so they told me to meet them in the lobby of the Contemporary.
Summer and April were not able to make it, but we were thrilled to have our good friends Bonnie and Laura join the group for the night.? Eight of my closest friends stood there with big ol’ grins on their faces.
I, however, was not feeling so jolly.? In fact, I was bordering on being annoyed.
You see,? I’m kinda like the cruise director of the DisBroads.? I made most of the Advanced Dining Reservations and suggested costume themes and even directed roommates.? Some call it bossy, I call it helping.? Ahem.? I just like being in charge.? And I was sooooo not in charge and uncomfortable with this!
Instead of heading up to the monorail (I assumed we were going to Epcot) they steered me out the back doors towards the boat docks.? And then we went TO the boat docks.? They all stopped and pointed to the sign:
While the Pirates and Pals Voyage was booked up, the private charters were not!? They were taking me on a private boat cruise around Bay Lake where we would stop and have the perfect view of Wishes.? Are you kidding me?!? Lauren, you NAILED it!
The funk was over (a great surprise will do that for you!) and I grinned ear to ear when I saw our boat.? The Cast Members decked it out for my birthday celebration.? We were soon on board.? Sean, our skipper, was up to the task of 9 rowdy women on a small boat.? He’s a pro and had no problem dealing with our shenanigans.
We got on board, listened to the rules, and headed out to sea.? If you ever get the opportunity to take this tour, please do it!? I cannot recommend it enough.? Our boat was stocked with sodas, chips, popcorn, granola bars, and pretzels (Oh MY! All included with the cruise.)? The Broads ordered a cake for the occasion from the Disney bakery.? DisBroad Amy and I took the left overs of that bad boy to our room after the cruise.? Dang it was good!
