Parents care what their kids watch for entertainment, so asking if there is sex in Marvel movies is a common question. Parent movie reviews and guides have been able to say NO… until now. In 2021, Marvel’s Eternals brings sex to the MCU. Here’s what parents need to know about the scene. Updated August 2022 with a note about sexuality in She-Hulk (see below).

About Marvel’s Eternals
Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.

Is There Sex In Marvel Movies? Welp, There Is Now
Not only are the Eternals a new superhero team for the MCU, but they are also breaking barriers.
- Chloe Zhao is the first woman of color to direct a Marvel film.
- Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) gets the first gay kiss in the MCU.
- Actress Lauren Ridloff, who plays Makarri, is the first deaf superhero in Marvel movies.
And Eternals also brings something new to the Marvel Cinematic Universe: S-E-X.
Let’s talk about superhero sex, Baby.
(Lack Of) Sex In the MCU
Why hasn’t there been sex in the MCU before Eternals?
Possibly because they wanted to keep the focus on superheroes and their missions. When you need to save the world, you also do not need to have your mind on, ahem, other things.
Amirite?
But most likely because Marvel wanted to maintain their PG-13 ratings to appeal in an effort to make sure Marvel movies are safe for kids to watch.
There have been some minor hints and jokes, a kiss here and there, and some light innuendo (looking at you, Tony Stark!) throughout the MCU up to now.
As even squeaky clean Captain Steve Rogers said: I’m 95, I’m not dead.
And in Marvel’s Eternals, sex finally happens in a Marvel movie.
What Happens In The Eternals Marvel Sex Scene?
Honestly?
Not a whole lot.
It’s a lot of hype with very little sizzle to back it up.
But parents may want to know what happens in the Marvel sex scene to decide if Eternals is safe for their kids to watch.
While the physical action is pretty limited during the scene (like, they hardly move), it is super clear that these superheroes are super naked in the moment.
There is no mistaking that the characters of Ikaris and Cercsi are having sex.
There isn’t any overt nudity in the scene: no breasts, butts, or other sexual organs are viewed during the event.
And it’s over pretty quickly as well.
Also: after the sex, the characters get married. Which may or not play into a family discussion in your household.
The scene happens about 25 minutes into the movie after a passionate kiss. So if you want to know when to cover a kiddo’s eyes or head to the bathroom to pee during Eternals, that’s when the moment happens.
Sex In Marvel’s She-Hulk On Disney+
We’ve seen 4 episodes of the newest Hulk vehicle and felt it might warrant a warning for sexual content.
If you need a full rundown of how age-appropriate She-Hulk is for kids, check out our She-Hulk parents guide.
As far as sex goes, there is a lot more talk and suggestive material in this series than we’ve seen in previous Marvel shows.
Jennifer Walters is a 30-something single woman and she’s resorting to swiping on dating apps to find a partner.
In the episodes we watched, there was also a discussion on Steve Roger’s virginity in an end-credit scene. This may be the most explicit discussion surrounding sex in the MCU so far.
While no physical nudity or sexual activity took place on screen in the episodes we previewed, we felt parents may need a heads up that it is widely discussed in the show.
