About WandaVision
Marvel Studios presents “WandaVision,” a blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.
You can watch the WandaVision trailer here.
“‘WandaVision’ will be the very first Marvel Studios series on Disney+,” says Kevin Feige, president, Marvel Studios and chief creative officer, Marvel. “Wanda and Vision are two of our most powerful and complex heroes, and this series is a perfect expansion point for MCU storytelling.”
The series not only marks the first Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series, but it is also its first journey into the world of sitcoms—with an MCU twist.
What Is Going On With WandaVision?
If you’ve watched the trailers or the first couple of episodes, this is probably your number one question.
Followed by comments like:
I don’t get it.
This is weird.
What the heck is going on?
All totally fair questions. This show always promised to be totally different than anything seen in the MCU before and it’s delivering on that promise.
So how do you get to enjoy the new series without being totally lost?
Here’s a list of Marvel movies and shows to watch before WandaVision to help answer some of those questions.
And no, you don’t have to watch all the Marvel movies in order (but you can with this list!).
We’ve narrowed things down to 5 and an extra scene.
List of Marvel Movies To Watch Before WandaVision
If you already jumped into WandaVision but really have no clue what is going on (that’s ok, none of us do, really!) than this list of MCU movies to watch before WandaVision should help the backstory.
At least give you a starting point on understanding who these characters are and why we are watching them in black and white!
1. IRON MAN
If you are brand new to the MCU, you might as well start at the beginning.
Iron Man is where it all started and where you learn about Stark Industries, Tony Stark, and his go-to right hand “man,” J.A.R.V.I.S. (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System).
Take note of the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S.
If you think it sounds like actor Paul Bettany, aka Vision of WandaVision, you’re well on your way! (because it IS Paul Bettany).
To get extra geeky, you can even go back and watch the Agent Carter series, where you will meet Edwin Jarvis (namesake of Tony Stark’s later creation J.A.R.V.I.S.).
But that’s not necessary to watch before WandaVision so feel free to stash that info for later!
2. Captain America: Winter Soldier End Credit Scene
You’re introduced briefly to Wanda and her twin Pietro during the end credit scene of this movie.
Here’s the link to check it out if you don’t have time to watch it all, but- make time cause this movie is amazing.
3. Avengers: Age Of Ultron
This is where things get really good.
We get all the Wanda and all the Vision we can handle in this movie!
And there’s a lot to handle.
This movie fleshes out both characters’ backstories and reasons for doing what they do.
And Vision has some of the best one-liners out there.
4. Captain America: Civil War
Wanda and Vision weren’t always on the same side and in Captain America: Civil War they go their separate ways.
At least for a bit.
No one could ever say their relationship didn’t have its trials!
5. Avengers: Infinity War
Things come to a (literal) head in Infinity War for Vision and Wanda. (You’ll get that reference after you watch the movie!)
Vision is an integral part of the safety of the entire universe- and Wanda’s love for him faces the ultimate test.
This one: it’s a must-watch!
6. Avengers: Endgame
The final installment of the Infinity Saga, and one of the finest superhero movies out there is your last MCU movie to watch before WandaVision.
BONUS Show To Watch Before WandaVision
If you don’t have a lot of time, Disney+ took care of you.
They put together the Legends series, short recaps of legenday Marvel characters packaged together in one 7 minute show.
The first two episodes are out: Wanda Maximoff and Vision on Disney Plus.
You’ll get all of the above condensed into snippets to give you a teaser of their history and relationship in the MCU.
ps- peep this list of Marvel movies to watch before The Falcon and The Winter Soldier as well!
UPDATE: After Episode 4, I’m Adding To the List!
As this series progresses, we’re getting more MCU characters that you’ll want to be familiar with.
Here are a few more Marvel movies to watch before WandaVision based on recent episodes.
- Captain Marvel. You’ll want to know who Maria and Monica Rambeau are- and this movie tells all!
- Thor 1 and Thor 2. Darcy Lewis was only an intern in these movies and now she’s got her PhD. Don’t worry: her sarcasm and sass is still strong!
- Ant-Man and the Wasp. Agent Jimmy Woo was once on the trail of Scott Lang, but now he’s working with SWORD to find a missing protection program witness. And he stumbles upon Wanda’s sitch…
