Do I Know Where My Kids Are? | Mom Monday
Imma gonna do some bragging on my kiddo. Because that’s what I do on Mom Mondays from time to time.
And in real Shenanigans fashion, I’ll also be outing myself as a terrible mother in the same post.
Okay, maybe not terrible. But there’s certainly room for improvement here.
I’ll start with my confession.
I, Shenanigans, have no idea where my children were last week.?
They were at school, mostly. But ‘tis the season for field trips and outings- and apparently last week was the week for Spring trips.
How does a mom lose track of her kids? Welp, it’s surprisingly easy to do.
You know how?you have four kids, and they go to three different schools, so you get all the emails and all the fliers and all the permission slips coming home ALL AT THE SAME TIME?
If it’s not like that at your house, I’m a wee bit jealous. Because it can be a bit overwhelming and confusing here.
I tend to read, sign, and forget about them. In quadruplicate. It’s a lot to remember!
So have mercy when you judge me.
April and May roll into each other and every dang year I lose my ever loving mind. So many events, deadlines, field trips and sports tournaments fill our calendars.
When I remember actually to fill them out on a calendar, that is. Ahem.
Since I didn’t do that one very simple task, sigh, it was no surprise when I was extremely surprised by the haul of medals and ribbons I found on Friday.
All with my teen’s name on them.
I call him down to EXPLAIN YOURSELF, MISTER…and discover my boy is a freakin’ math genius.
There was a district-wide competition, and he cleaned up.
He says he wants to be an engineer when he grows up, and I’m starting to see that as a viable option. Math at this level is hard, but he finds it easy AND fun. Sounds like a career choice to me.
I’m sure I signed a permission slip at some point. And I vaguely remember him making a sack lunch to take on the trip that morning.
But this month, it all just… kinda ran together.
End result: I forgot about his math contest. Yes, I’m the worst.
He won three certificates, four ribbons, and a medal.
That medal represents 3rd place out of the ENTIRE school district for this competition of 6th, 7th and 8th graders (overall score).
He “lost” to two 8th graders, so really he’s the smartest 7th grader in math of ALL TIME!
#ProudMom moment right here.
My kids are kind of cool and do a lot of great things but when they are totally nerdy like this my heart soars. This is the kind of event I can get behind and support 100%. The nerdier, the better, I always say!
He was kind; he didn’t even rub it in that I was probably folding laundry instead of watching him at the award ceremony.
Bonus: he didn’t fight me (too much) for the picture. He was proud of himself, even though he tried to toss those awards on the table like it was NBD.
I got you, kid, I know this was HUGE.
The two in elementary school apparently also had field trips. Who knew?
Um… not me. You know, their mother.
I did say I’m the worst, right?
Happy Monday!
Have you ever forgotten your kid’s schedules before? How do you handle the end of year crazy?

Gosh, I only have 1 kid and I miss things all the time! And my work is super flexible with family stuff so I don’t have that as an excuse. MOTY awards all around! Lol.
CONGRATS TO YOUR AWESOME KID!! Guess you’re doing something right. 🙂
Thank you! A full-time job of being a parent plus full time jobs sure keep us on our toes!
You are not the worst! You forgot, it happens. Congratulations to your son in all of his Math achievements!! he is totally awesome!!
I only have my son, but his events all have to be marked in 3 separate calendars, or i’ll miss them. I know it sounds insane, but it’s the only way I can keep track of them.
I put them in my planner (The first four months of the year anyway), my phone, and the family calendar in the kitchen. Writing them down so many times helps me remember *most* events.
First 4 months of the year— yes, sister, I feel ya! And it’s April, so that explains why I cut that month short. lol I also do the same, but this week… wow… it just didn’t get written down anywhere. My daughter’s band program IS on all three calendars so I will be sure to be there tomorrow. 🙂
