Movies to Watch Before Thor: Ragnarok Hits Theaters | Plus Bonus Featurette

Excited for the next Thor movie? Yep, me too. I suggest a little homework before November 3 (it’s all fun, I swear!). Here are 4 movies to watch before Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters. Plus a bonus movie & show for those that really want to get into the Marvel fandom! Affiliate links included.

4 movies to watch before Thor: Ragnarok opens on November 3!

When it comes to Super Heroes, I do have my faves.

I’m a Marvel girl, no question-  and admittedly a fairly new fan to the franchise.

By new, I mean that I’ve seen all the movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but I am not a comic book geek.

I can’t say I’ve read a whole lot of those. But when it comes to the movies, I simply cannot get enough!

A few weeks ago one of the movie theater franchises was hosting a Marvel Week and I was all over that action, with the Thor movies being a top priority.

This movie has me over the top excited! Director Taika Waititi, Tessa Thompson and Chis Hemsworth on the set of Thor: Ragnarok.

But before we get to the movies to watch before Thor: Ragnarok, let’s get a little hype going for it!

Here’s a new featurette for the movie that will definitely do just that.

I’m so ready for this movie. Well, mostly ready. I’m still working on the homework.

This is where you can join me- it’s not cheating; consider it a group project!

I think doing a little Marvel movie homework before November 3 is important for the casual Marvel fan because there’s a lot that goes on in these movies.

Movies to Watch Before Thor: Ragnarok

Thor

This seems like common sense, no? Start at the beginning of Thor’s Marvel story.

Here you meet Thor Odinson, the young prince (about to be made the king) of Asgard.

Like many young men with status and talent, he is a bit cocky about, well, everything.

And he soon learns that even a prince of Asgard has limits.

(This is the official trailer and it cleans up, I promise! It doesn’t stay pixelated.)

After defying his father, he’s stripped of his powers and cast out of Asgard and sent to Midgard. We know this as Earth.

The good news: Thor loves Earth and becomes one of our mightiest defenders.

The bad news: he’s just a mortal man and can’t quite defend us from interstellar invaders as he once was able to.

The Avengers

Spoiler alert: in the first movie, you meet Thor’s brother, Loki.

You want to like him (because he’s Tom Hiddleston and what’s NOT to like about Tom Hiddleston!?) but… well…

Loki is not the best guy to have in your family tree. Ahem.

He is the featured villain in the next movie on your list: The Avengers.

I gotta say: I LOVE this movie.

I’m currently helping a friend get into the MCU and I just couldn’t wait for her to meet the Avengers.

So many great fight scenes, so many fantastic lines from the character back and forth!

She just watched this last night and the texts are awesome.

“I LOVE COULSON! When’s the Coulson meet and greet at Disney because that needs to happen.”

“The Avengers are pretty bad A**”

“Wait- WHAT?! I HATE LOKI!!!”

Want to know what all that means? Be sure to watch the movie!

Thor: The Dark World

This one might be my favorite of the four. I know, that makes me super weird since apparently the world hated it.

But I loved it. The heart wants what the heart wants, amirite?

After a long absence from Earth, Thor is back and he’s needed because there are some big troubles brewing.

If you have to pick just one movie to watch before Thor: Ragnarok, I think this might be my suggestion.

You get Thor saving Earth and you get a healthy dose of Loki. And guys? He’s a villain that I just can’t stop loving!

You can rent or buy Thor: The Dark World here.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Throughout all these movies, pay attention to Thor’s description and discussion of the Infinity Stones. Each stone has a different and extreme power.

But collect them all in one place? Ah, that’s where there’s going to be a problem.

Thor’s basically setting us up to understand what’s coming: the ultimate battle with Thanos over the Infinity Gauntlet (Infinity War comes out in May 2018).

Age of Ultron brings more of the Infinity Stones into focus. If you want a spoiler-free review, check it out over here.

Side note: this movie is where I decided Tony Stark might be getting just a bit too big for his titanium alloy britches!

#TeamCap all the way, y’all!

If you are all caught up, then be sure to check out the posters and trailers for Thor: Ragnarok.

Trust me, it’s worth watching a 2nd or 22nd time!

These four are the key movies to watch before Thor: Ragnarok comes out.

Bonus Marvel to Watch Before THOR: RAGNAROK

If you want to go for bonus points on your homework, I’d add DOCTOR STRANGE to the list.

He makes a cameo in THOR: RAGNAROK and it could be confusing if you don’t get the reference.

You can also start Season 1 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D (welcome to level 7!) for fun. And it is SO fun.

You can find it on Netflix or Hulu.

Who’s planning on watching Thor: Ragnarok the first weekend it comes out? You know I’ll be there!
