Are you a slave to your FitBit or Garmin VivoFit?
This week we’re talking about which ones we use, love, hate, whatnot for Tuesdays on the Run.
If you don’t use them, no worries! ?Any running-related blog post is welcome.
My FitBit Love
In July, I finally broke down and replaced my old FitBit. ?I’ve had one off and on for years, but I decided it was essentially a fancy pedometer that needed constant care (recharging). ?So I made like Elsa and let it gooooo….
All that changed when FitBit came out with the new FitBit Charge HR.
This one came with a heart rate monitor, a sleep tracker, and a calorie counter. ?But the HR monitor was the main selling point.
Other FitBit versions tried to estimate the calories and sleep, but I knew they were not as accurate as something that took heart rate into account.
3 miles of walking certainly didn’t burn the same calories a 3 miles of racing.
I have a Garmin that will take heart rate into consideration for me, but I am NOT fond of those chest straps.
This product came at the right time with just the right bells and whistles.
It still needs to be charged every couple of days, and I can’t wear it in the shower or the pool. ?Other than that, I love the product!
Side note: I bought a Garmin Vivofit for my 10-year-old daughter. ?It doesn’t have the heart rate monitor, but it’s waterproof and has a 1-year battery life. ?I thought this was the easier option for a young kid. It’s more low-maintenance than the FitBit. ?We are both happy with this product as well.
Wearing the FitBit literally keeps me moving. ?When I look down and see I’ve only taken 1500 steps, and it is already 10 am, I know I have to get up and off the couch.
My goal is set for 12,000 steps every day, and I have been known to go out for a late night walk to get that final count to goal.
I also love the challenges and friends list. ?A little friendly competition doesn’t hurt!
The FitBit can also be linked to My Fitness Pal or Weight Watchers if you are tracking your food intake and calorie burn. ?I feel like it’s an excellent tool in your quest to stay active and lose weight.
It’s working for me. ?I needed a little visual push and reminder on those days that I want to sit and eat. ?;)
Do you use a fitness tracker? ?Are you a fan of the FitBit?
