Opalite: Everything You Need To Know Before The Life of a Showgirl Drops
Swifties, this one is for you. Taylor Swift announced her 12th studio album on August 13, 2025, on the New Heights podcast. Since revealing The Life of a Showgirl tracklist, people have been talking about Opalite. Here’s everything you need to know about this crystal (which, it’s not- it is actually glass) and how it may have influenced the song in question. There will be no spoilers to lyrics in this post; I’m just talking about the potential themes!

The Life of a Showgirl: TS12 From Taylor Swift
The announcement has been made, and fans everywhere are waiting for Taylor’s next move.
In fact, as of this writing, there is a purple glittery countdown to 2pm ET (August 18, 2025) on the taylorswift.com website.
What’s happening at 2 pm? Everything our Swifitie imaginations and easter egg hunting can imagine. From a new single to a documentary announcement to special vinyls and everything in between. We just don’t know yet.
ETA: 2pm was a surprise limited edition vinyl drop for anyone who is keeping track.
But The Life of a Showgirl releases on October 3, 2025. That we do know!
Let’s talk about track number 3, Opalite while we wait.

What is Opalite?
Opalite is a man-made synthetic crystal that imitates Opal.
Now, Opals are totally different, but there are some budget-conscious October birthday girlies and guys who will pick up Opalite in place of the more expensive Opal.
Opalite is mainly a glass, but sometimes has metal or resin included as well.
It tends to be colorless or white, with bluish or orange hues. Kinda reminds me of this, if I’m being super Swiftie about it.

There is a natural Opalite, however, which is formed from volcanic ash. Gemstones… but make it Swiftie? I got you.
This version made me think of the lyrics from “You’re Losing Me:”
I’m getting tired even for a phoenix
Always risin’ from the ashes
It remains to be seen whether Taylor is referring to the glass version or the natural version, so let’s put a pin in that.
The Meaning Behind Opalite
Opalite does have some woo-woo qualities that the crystal-loving girlies can attest to. Here is a list of healing properties and meanings behind Opalite:
- clarity
- fresh starts
- tranquility
- Opalite is a mood booster (sounds like we may have heard something similar from Taylor recently, ahem…)
- it’s more durable and more rigid than Opals, therefore making it the more resilient option
- its soothing
- Opalite symbolizes optimism and perspective
- supposedly helps with insomnia and nightmares
- it calms anxious thoughts
- it reduces grief and sadness
- Opalite is used to help increase self-esteem and connections to others
I can see where Taylor could be inspired by Opalite, enough to potentially write a song with its properties in mind.
Taylor Swift Wears Opals and Maybe Opalite?
If I were to guess, I’d say Taylor tends to wear the real stuff. So I’m not sure she’s walking around in the less expensive Opalite very often.
“My favorite stone is an opal because when I was bullied in school, my mom used to take me to T.J. Maxx after school to look at the opal jewelry,” she explained. “I thought opals were so beautiful, and somehow it made me feel better. We never bought them, just looked.”
And since Opalite mimics the look of the stone, who’s to say?
We’ve seen her wear her share of budget-friendly jewelry before (including on last week’s podcast!)

She was seen wearing Opal or Opalite earrings on the field after the AFC Championship in 2024. Friend Kelleigh Teller also gifted her a gorgeous ring, made of Opal and blue topaz, in 2023 for her birthday. Which, by the way, Taylor said, “…should be a gift for Elizabeth Taylor…”
Guys, Track 2 on The Life of a Showgirl is called Elizabeth Taylor.
Need to know about Liz Taylor? I’ll be covering that lore and the parallels to Taylor Swift next!
