Product Review: Sassy Sara Running Skirts

Sometimes I’m pretty girlie. Example: when I run, it’s usually done in full makeup and 90% of the time I’m in a skirt.

Some folks are not into skirts, but me, I love them!

Mostly because they’re cute, and they make me feel like I look good when I’m out there. This is a long-lived affair: I’ve been partial to running in skirts ever since I started running.

I’ve tried all the major brands?and found aspects I liked about each of them.

Recently I’ve found a new style that I’m totally digging. It covers all my basic running and walking needs and looks great as well! Oh and the price & customer service… but wait, I’m getting ahead of myself.

Introducing Sassy Sara Skirts.

I was searching for a new brand of running skirts. One that has deep pockets, built in shorts, and custom design options. I found the right brand for me in Sassy Sara Skirts! running | walking | Active wear | Plus Size | Regular Size

Sassy Sara Skirts

I know what you are thinking. Doesn’t that look a lot like…

Yes… and no. It’s similar in look?but very different in construction. Different stitching, different pockets, different leg cuffs, and different waistband are a few ways in which they differ.

Every Sassy Sara Skirt is a custom skirt because the owner of the company, Stacie Helsing, is a one-woman show. She started the business as a way to make her daughter matching skirts to ones she was buying elsewhere and eventually branched out to include adult sizes.

You send in your measurements; she cuts to your size. So your skirt will fit a little differently than your neighbor’s skirt that might be made in a similar cut?and size.

She offers two main cuts.

One is a slim silhouette?with a longer length.

The other is a bit more swingy cut, but not quite as full as other skirts.

But because each skirt is custom, she’s able to work toward your preferences. Thanks to my junk in the trunk, I asked for a fuller skirt with a swingy cut.

Wearing my Sassy Sara Skirt. I wear an XL in most skirt brands, and this fits true to size.

The shorts can be made out of a basic compression material or Stacie’s favorite material which is heavier, very soft and compressive. I went with Stacie’s suggestion and loved the way the shorts felt.

She offers some stock fabrics that you can check out on Facebook but will also make any skirt from 4-way stretch fabric you provide.

How I Tested?Sassy Sara Skirts

I wore this skirt all day when it first arrived.

Since many of us wear these skirts for more than just running (guilty!), I knew I needed to see how it felt sitting, standing, cleaning, driving, etc.

I had no issues at all on this front. My phone and keys stayed in my pockets as I went about my errands and day.

The real test, of course, was the road test.

Would the skirt stay put in all areas?

Here I ran into a small issue, but I’m going to put the blame on myself.

The skirt slipped a little off my bootay as I ran. Why is this my fault? Cause that means I lost some weight- huzzah!

Side note: I’m in the middle of a 30 Day Challenge (I’ll tell you about it when it’s complete) and finally seeing some movement on both the scale and in my measurements. WHOOHOO!

I’m pretty sure I gave too generous a waist and hip measurement to Stacie when I ordered than what I need. When I compare the size to of this skirt to others I own, I see a slight difference in the waistline which was enough for me to feel the slippage.

So be careful when you order! If you want a tighter fit, you may want to measure a little smaller. My skirt is still going to work for me, but I may have to add in a drawstring fairly soon!

And I’m not at all upset about that news. Ahem.

The pockets are to die for. Generous enough to hold my husband’s iPhone 6 Plus. There are two: one on each leg. No zipper pocket available.

And the shorts stayed put. No ride up or creeping happening at all. The legs stayed in place. And for a girl who’s thighs love to rub on each other, this was the most welcome aspect about the skirt.

I’ve already ordered my next fabric and will be sending it in for another skirt soon!

Buy Sassy Sara

You can order your own by visiting the Sassy Sara Skirt Facebook page or going straight to the order document here.

Ready to know how much these will cost you? They are entirely reasonable, folks!

$50 for an adult skirt; $35 if you provide the fabric. Children’s skirts can be made for $25. Headbands are also an option.

Current wait time is 4-8 weeks per skirt. There are no returns with these skirts since they are custom made, but Stacie will work with you to make your skirt to your liking.

I’ve been extremely pleased with the customer service Stacie provided as well. She answered all my detailed questions and helped me decide what fit and pattern would work for this first skirt.

I’m not selling off my older skirts, but I will be buying all new ones from Sassy Sara Skirts.

Do you like to run in skirts or are you all about shorts or capris?
