No offense to the Stark family, but around here summer is the season to fear.
It gets hot. ?REAL hot in Arizona.
And my kids get?bored. ?REAL bored.
You might remember my post from last summer where I had a bit of a freak out.
This year I’m trying to be a bit proactive and plan some trips and outings that might keep me from going insane.
Travel is the word for Summer 2015. ?I have a few trips in the works during our ten-week summer vacation.
Because… if we stay home together all season long, things are going to get ugly real fast!
Up first: ?we’re going back to Texas!
We haven’t been back since we moved a little over a year ago. ?It’s time.
The kids miss their grandparents (both sets are back there now) and their cousins.
And I miss Tex-Mex.
We’ll make the trip in June, with stops up and down?I35?visiting family and friends.
If you see the black Honda “Vader Van” cruise by with Arizona runDisney?license plates- honk and say howdy.
I’m most excited about heading back to one of our favorite places on earth: Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.
This was our annual summer destination as children. ?We grew up just down the interstate in San Antonio so hitting up Schlitterbahn was a no-brainer. ?My parents loved the convenience of free parking and the fact that you could pack in your own picnic lunch.
30 years later: ?nothing’s changed!
There’s STILL free parking, and you are allowed to pack your cooler and roll that baby right in! ?Moms?& Dads?on a budget appreciate that option.
In 1966, along a stretch of a tree-lined, spring-fed river on the edge of the Texas Hill Country, Bob and Billye Henry and their three children began creating what would eventually become the world’s first water resort and the nation’s most popular summertime waterpark. Since what they were building had never been attempted before, the Henry’s relied on their own vision of combining water fun and resort accommodations into a family destination.
49 years later, there are Schlitterbahns in 5 cities!
The park is perfect for a family spread out in ages like mine. ?There’s something for everyone- tweens to toddlers can have a blast as they cool down. ?We proved this with the last trip we took in 2012. ?We traveled to the resort with?8 kids?ranging in ages 1 (#OhLucy) up to 12.
The older kids loved all the big water slides and Lucy and Seth were quite happy playing in the splash zones.
This year Luke has his sights set on?surfing the Boogie Bahn. ?Claire and Seth are making plans to attack the Master Blaster Uphill Water Coaster together.
I’m looking forward to tubing down some of the chutes in the original park, just like I did as a kid.
There’s so much offered at Schlitterbahn that I’m sure we will stay a couple of days to get it all in. ?Thankfully there’s both onsite resorts and offsite condos located in the New Braunfels area that can host my large family.
As you know, my favorite part of every trip is the pre-party: ?let the planning commence!
Would you like to go to Schlitterbahn too? ?You’re in luck! I’m giving away two tickets to 1 lucky winner this week.
