Star Wars Posters, Nerdiness, and Wil Wheaton
I have a feeling we will see much more come out?about Star Wars: The Force Awakens soon (hello, master of the obvious)- and I’m looking forward to it. ?This pre-marketing is unlike anything I can remember seeing in my life.
Merchandise is off the hook already, and I can only imagine what might be released in time for Christmas. ?Squeeee!
It’s all quite exciting for those of us who love the franchise.
The point of this post: to get you the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens posters. ?They are beautiful, and I am debating which one will be my phone wallpaper for the next 6-weeks. ?Han or Leia are in the lead at this point.
Leia or Han. ?Hmmmm…
There’s your teaser posters.
I’ll admit I’m taking a long way to get to the full point of this post. ?Bear with me here.
Here’s a question: I want to ask about your Star Wars fandom.
When did it start for you? ?Do you have any great nerdy confessions to make?
I was six-years-old when I first saw?The Empire Strikes Back?in the theater with my parents. Seeing a PG film that young was a HUGE deal, and I’ll forgive my parents any questionable parenting since it’s been a life-long love ever since.
Han saving Luke from certain death by stuffing him inside Tauntaun guts? ?Leia and Han sharing a kiss??Luke getting his hand cut off? ?YODA?!
Yeah, I lost my ever loving mind over that movie as a kid.
I don’t profess to be one of those mega-fans with all the canon stored in my brain. ?Nope, that’s not me. ?But I did marry that guy.
I’m a basic run of the mill fan; I’ll admit. ?However, I did name my son Luke in part so we could do the “Luke, I am your Father” line.
Here’s the thing:
I think being a fan on any level is okay.
I think it’s okay to be a fan of something and enjoy it on a basic level.
It’s also okay to be a huge, mega fan and really dig things.
Everyone has their nerd meter, right? ?And since mine doesn’t affect yours and yours doesn’t change mine, hey, we can all get along and be nerdy together.
That’s what’s so great about this new Star Wars movie and all the movies in the Marvel Universe coming out. ?It’s giving entry for a new generation of fans that love the age-old story of good versus evil.
I see nothing wrong with finding new fans and new interests. ?I’m sure the creators and studios see nothing wrong with that either!
As Wil Wheaton said on a podcast the other day, you can be a nerd about a lot of things in a lot of different ways (totally paraphrasing and I might be messing that all up, but that was my takeaway!).
Sorry to go off on a tangent but the podcast from Wil stuck with me. ?You should listen to it.
Warning- more tangents
Wil! ?I love Wil Wheaton!
Can you get any nerdier than that?!
I loved him in Stand By Me, couldn’t watch him in Star Trek: The Next Generation (because my nerd doesn’t roll that way- sorry Wil!), but I’ve loved his back and forth with Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory. ?His episodes are a highlight in my DVR binge watching of the show, and I’ll often yell “Wheeeeaaatttoonnnn!” when I’m frustrated over something.
True story.
Alright- back to Star Wars and the reason you are probably here, right?
Yesterday the studio released these new movie posters. They are kind of cool and my daughter already asked for a copy of each for her wall. ?I’ll have to see what I can do about that one!
When did your Star Wars love start??Which is your favorite poster?

I was essentially born into the Star Wars fandom. I was born in 1981 and my 10 year old brother was a huge Star Wars fan. My parents let him pick my middle name and he chose Leia. The original Star Wars trilogy was some of the first movies I ever remember watching and I loved them. I was also an avid reader of the expanded universe novels in middle and high school. I still remember the excitement of my parents letting me skip school senior year to stand in line to get advance tickets for Episode 1.
You have every little girl born in the 70-80’s dream name! That’s a cute story about your brother. Do you remember liking Episode 1? I wanted to like it so much, but I just couldn’t. I didn’t hate it (like I do now- I’ll admit it, it’s awful) but at the time I was like, well, the next 2 will get better, right?
I saw the movies growing up but was not a big fan. I married into my Star Wars love. Seeing how much my husband loved it, then L and now E is in the fringe thanks to Ahsoka and Rey. I had to learn to keep up with my boys. The first time I posted about May the 4th, my old roommate blasted me for changing.
It took awhile for me to embrace my nerdy side because I didn’t want to be judged for what I know or don’t know. Someone is always going to know more than me and it’s ok. 🙂
All of the new posters are fab. I love them all.
See- I hate it when people act like just because you don’t know everything, you can’t like something. And I LOVE that you are letting me blossom my nerdiness under your guidance. Ha! I can’t wait for Avengers Half now. I get it- I really get it!
It all comes back to Kermit.
I was born six months before Return of the Jedi and some of my earliest Saturday morning cartoon memories involve Kermit and Miss Piggy doing battle with Darth Vader on the floor of their nursery. (Muppet Babies rocked!)
In high school the internet buzz for the prequels was all we talked about. Then they came out. As a complete costuming nerd I loved them! Yes, all of the prequel.
They were beautiful.
I’m super excited to take my kids to the opening showing of Force Awakens (and really thankful for the 7PM premiere because although I *would’ve* taken them to a midnight showing, this will be much more pleasant for everyone involved!)

Ha! Muppet Babies- there’s a blast. That’s a great link to Star Wars. We watched the full marathon with our kids before we did sww one year. I was so proud when the Jedi training academy guy asked “who shot first?” And they both yelled Han! #teammerd
Mine started with the original in 1977. I had just graduated from high school. A friend and I were going to an afternoon movie and had not looked to see what was playing until we got there. We thought the poster for Star Wars looked cool. We hadn’t heard anything about it so went in totally blind. I was hooked! I love the movies and have already purchased tickets for opening weekend. The whole family decided to sign up for the Star Wars Dark Side.
Movie posters: they get you sucked in! Ha!
1977, saw Episode IV in the theater after standing in line for hours. I was already a big Sci-Fi geek and wasn’t going to miss it. When the Star Destroyer came across the screen after the Rebel ship, I was hooked. Sat my son down when he was 5 to start the series the same way and he is just as big a fan. We will definitely be there opening weekend for The Force Awakens.
This does not surprise me- that you stood in line for hours that is. 🙂 I love that you passed this on to your own son!
There is so much on The Big Bang Theory that my husband has to explain. LOL
He likes Star Wars so we’ll probably go see it a few weeks after release in the Lux level. I’m in for dinner and drinks at your seat in the movies!! I saw the original one at the drive in and the other two from the 70s/80s but I don’t remember much of the details. So I’m sure I’ll be asking a lot of questions.
Sounds like your hubby will be happy to explain it all too! Hope you enjoy the movie (and I need a theater like that- awesome!)
