Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion Debuts TONIGHT!
And you do NOT want to miss it!
Set your DVRs (because you WILL want to see it again!) and plan a movie night with the kids.
All the drama, action, and excitement starts at 9pm ET/PT on the Disney Channel.
I attended a sneak preview courtesy of the Disney Channel last week with my oldest, Luke.? He’s 11-years-old and possibly past the prime viewing age for cartoons.
However, the Force is strong with this series!
Luke loved every moment and we had deep discussions about possible plot twists on our drive home that day.? Apparently you just don’t outgrow Star Wars.
The plot:
The Empire is taking over the galaxy and Imperial forces occupy a remote planet, Lothal.? They are ruining the lives of it’s people, natch.
Street rat Ezra (yes, he calls himself that, and yes, I thought about Aladdin for a minute) is a smart and wily kid who has a special connection to the world around him.? You know where this is going, right?
The crew of the starship, Ghost, has plans to curtail the Empire’s hold on the planet.
The leader of the band of Rebels, Kanan, is revealed to be one of the few remaining Jedi in the galaxy.? Pilot Hera knows her stuff: about piloting a ship as well as piloting people.? The “muscle” of the group is Zeb.? Every starship needs a droid and the loveable Chopper fills this role perfectly.? Finally there’s Sabine, an explosives expert, with a quick wit and great hair.
Seriously.? I want this look.
Are there Storm Troopers?? Of course.
And Wookiees, too.
Does this kinda feel like A New Hope (aka, the original Star Wars?)
Yep, it does.? I geeked out all over again thinking “Star Wars is BACK!”
It all works in a fresh, new way.? The animation, the writing, and the characters are fantastic!
Timing of this series is set after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope.
The crew of the Ghost clearly has chemistry and history.? Throwing the newcomer Ezra in the mix causes some imbalances that develop into riveting plot points.
Zeb, man, how could you?
There were some surprisingly heavy moments but in typical Star Wars fashion they are offset with some humor.
I laughed out loud when a Storm Trooper asks a seemingly innocent question of the bad guy, Kallus, and pays dearly for it.
“Is this the first Jedi you’ve encountered?”
Err… probably not so funny to the poor storm trooper!

Be sure to watch the 1 hour premiere tonight.? You don’t want to miss this smart and fun installment to the Star Wars family.
Disclosure:? I was given two free tickets to the premiere of this event in exchange for an honest review.? I was not compensated in any other way.? May the Force Be With You.
What is your favorite Star Wars series or episode (so far?)? Will you be tuning in tonight?

Looks fun! I’ll have to be sure to let my boys know – I’ll bet they will want to watch!
Did they watch it? We did!
Thanks so much for this post! I forgot to set the DVR until I read this post and it reminded me just in time. My son watched it today and loved it!
