Tuesdays on the Run is a link up we do every week over here.
Link up with?Erika,?Marcia and me each Tuesday to talk about running and all that comes with it!
This week the topic is tapering and quirks.
And just in case you are a planner, here are the next couple you might want to plan for!
- 10/18/2016?? What are your remaining Goals for 2016?
- 10/25/2016 ?? If you could go back and run/train for a race differently, or revisit an epic one just for fun, what would you redo?
- 11/1/2016???Favorite winter cross-training
- 11/8/2016? ??How are you different from when you started blogging?
- 11/15/2016?? Runner?s?Gift list
Taper Quirks
Let it be known: I don’t taper.
Let it be known: usually because my training is barely training these days, so I’m just lucky to get the miles in.
Let it be known: I do not advocate this level of “training” but it’s better than the alternative. Which is doing nothing.
Let it be known: my tapering friends make me laugh with their stories.
If you aren’t familiar with the term, tapering is when an athlete reduces the amount of exercise they normally would do leading up to their competition. A runner will stop running (GASP) for a week to three weeks in order to be at peak performance for race day.
Basically, it’s a fancy way of saying you are resting up for the big race.
Not running after doing a lot of running for a really long time tends to make you a little crazy I’m told.
With all the fall marathons starting to kick off, I figure many of you may need a little humor.
Enjoy!

I have only had a short taper (about a week and a half) for most of my half marathons... I'm curious to see how I feel with the taper for my marathon this winter.

Oh my gosh this is hilarious! Normally I'm with you in that I don't taper because I'm desperately trying to catch up with my training. I've legitimately done it twice before marathons ... and I'm not sure it really helped that much on race day. Maybe I'm doing it wrong because I've heard it works wonders for other people!

I love a good taper. Because let's face it, training is exhausting! :)

I do not taper as much as I should. I usually feel my training isn't what it should be so I try to cram it all in towards the end. This past marathon training I actually did taper and it paid off.

I get so nervous about going so long without running before a race (not that you don't run, but running less). I'll have to add these to my mental list of things to distract me when I get anxious. :)
