If you know a runner, you know they love to eat.? Most of us joke- okay, unabashedly admit- that we run TO EAT.? Or drink.? Or both.
Our topic this week on Tuesdays on the Run is just that: post-race treats.
What do you envision at the finish line?? What do you crave after you run hard?
Link-up with us and let us know what kind of food you love to eat post race.
When I finish a race I have one goal in mind:? food.
My usual post-race routine involves water, Powerade, a banana, and a full breakfast of eggs, bacon, and potatoes.
According to the runDisney Diet Diva, Tara Gidus, I’m hitting the 3 R’s square on the head with this plan.
Tara says, “Refuel with carbohydrates, Rebuild with protein, and Rehydrate with Fluid.”
Check, check and check!
A little later on I combine carbs and hydration when I consume my favorite treat:? a margarita.
I know this is probably not what she has in mind when talking about replacing your carbs!? It’s just a guess here, ha ha ha, but she’s probably talking about something a bit more standard and healthy and possibly plant-based.? Because Tara is healthy like that.
Maybe a baked potato would be more up her alley?
This past race weekend I discovered a hidden treasure in plain sight at the Magic Kingdom: the glorious baked potato in Liberty Square.
I know- I know.
Whaaaaa????? Baked potatoes in Liberty Square!?? I thought only Nutella Waffles lived in Liberty Square!? (By the way, check out April’s blog today if you need more info on that one!)
I happened to have a post-race conversation with Amy M. of the Disney Parks Moms Panel.? She was sharing some of her best questions from guests and said she spent an hour researching baked potatoes on property.
Um, girl, I LOVE me some potatoes.? Tell me more.
Amy started talking potatoes, and our runner hungry eyes glazed over.? She told us that you could purchase a baked potato for less than $4.00 at the Liberty Square Market.
Our whole group kind of let out a moan- bakkkeed po-ta-to… mmmmmm.? Yaaassss!
It might have been the margaritas talking or the 19.3 miles of rungry setting in, but we made a beeline to the Magic Kingdom for our after race meal.
Check this: you can use snack credits for these babies too!
I’m not kidding, y’all, the angels are singing right now as I type this.
That post-Princess potato was THE BOMB DIGGITY of all potatoes. #truestory
The same location also has these AH-MAZING huge pickles. ?You need to replace the sodium after a race or a hot day of walking around Walt Disney World? ?Grab one of these suckers.
They’ve now gone onto the “must do” list for all Walt Disney World visits.
And to think, I’d never known about this if it wasn’t for the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
If you are also a huge potato fan or want to know what other options you have for refueling post race with this particular tuber, check out Amy’s answer for a guest.
Thanks, Amy, for the great tip and addition to my post-race treat plan:
Margarita, Baked Potato, Nutella Waffle.
Check, check, and check!
Do you have any special post-race meal plans?? What do you like to eat after you run?
ETA: Amy and I- with THE potato!? I DID take a picture that night.? Excellent job, blogger! 😉
