The news has poured out Orlando over the last 24-hours with the Awaken Summer announcements.
Boy oh boy, if you are a Disney World fan, this is a GREAT day to be alive. Alright, that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but if you geek out over theme park news, this is a good day to read up on all the awesome coming to the Disney parks.
Here’s a quick rundown of what you have to look forward to starting in May.
Awaken Summer Epcot
Friends from Finding Dory will start showing up at Turtle Talk with Crush in May. This show is an interactive must-do if you have little dudes and dudettes at Epcot.
Frozen Ever After?attraction will finally be open this summer. It feels like we’ve been mourning?Maelstrom for a long time. ?Okay, just me? ?Moving on…
Bonus Anna and Elsa meet and greet will open around the same time as well.
Soarin’ Around The World opens at Epcot with Fastpass+ being an?option for Soarin? beginning Thursday, April 21. ?As in TOMORROW.?
Awaken Summer Hollywood Studios
The third track of Toy Story Midway Mania will open!
This should result in shorter lines and maybe more FastPass+ options for guests. A much-needed addition to Walt Disney World.
The debut of Star Wars Galactic Spectacular Fireworks should be happening sometime in June. ?No date announced. ?I cannot wait to see this one myself.
Awaken Summer Animal Kingdom
Tiffins restaurant?opens in Animal Kingdom in May as well. Check out the menu and see if this will become a family favorite!
Memorial Day weekend looks to kick off the new nighttime attractions at Animal Kingdom, making this former half-day park (c’mon, you know it was!) a full day experience. I’m looking forward to all of these additions:
Kilimanjaro Safaris?at sunset will be awesome. But riding Expedition Everest in the Dark?
Ohhhh yeahhh… sign me up!
The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic Show debuts in place of the River of Lights show (indefinitely?suspended at this time). Based on the live-action adaption of the movie, the stage show will have you singing and dancing to classic songs throughout the night.
The Tree of Life Awakens?will happen nightly starting?Memorial Day as well.
The iconic Tree of Life will undergo an “awakening” of sorts and based on early previews; this one cannot be missed.
From the Walt Disney World website:
“A feast for the eyes, each approximately 3-minute-long revelation celebrates the eternal balance and harmony that exists in all living things, big or small, and is sure to inspire and delight the entire family, big and small.”
Awaken Summer Magic Kingdom
New stage show starring Tiana, and Rapunzel debuts this summer.
Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire looks like a lot of fun- even if I don’t quite follow how all these characters “know” each other. Details, details. I’m sure it all works out.
We have a new Princess to meet at the Magic Kingdom this summer!
Princess Elena, Disney?s first princess inspired by diverse Latin cultures, will star in a Disney Channel show this summer. Then she will be found making new friends at Walt Disney World.
I can’t wait to meet her!
Phew… that’s a lot of information coming from Walt Disney World today. I’ll try to keep up with any other announcements as they come.
The biggest disappointment for most of us is, of course, the pushback of the Rivers of Light. The reasons why it has been pushed back are not clear, but hopefully, we see the full show in its glory this fall. I have a trip planned for late October: don’t let me down, Disney!
What are you most excited to see with Awaken Summer? Are you traveling to Walt Disney World this summer?
