Running is – obviously – a huuuuge part of my life. And I love it. And I hate it. And there are just some things that I will do in order to keep it fun that are pretty ridiculous…

My Running Guilty Pleasures
So there are a lot of parts about running that I like – that I’m supposed to like. The endorphins. The “me time”. The medals.
But even with all of the benefits of running – the stuff that I love about it – it’s still really easy to get down and start to dread it. I’ll lay in bed the night before a long training run, just dreading the next morning. That kind of stuff makes running something I don’t look forward to.
I have found that adding in a few “guilty pleasures” really helps keep it fun and interesting…
Guilty Pleasure #1: Terrible Music
And by terrible music, I mean AWESOME music.
Stuff that I wouldn’t listen to around my kids (like gangster rap complete with insane amounts of obscenities and gunshot sounds).
Stuff that I absolutely adored as a teenager (N*SYNC I AM LOOKING AT YOU!)
Stuff that other people would probably never think about listening to while running (ahem… Les Miserables soundtrack…)
My running playlist is full of the craziest music and I love it, so so much. Obviously, it goes without saying that there is a ridiculous amount of Disney music… but throw in some OPP, Culture Club, Bauer (Harlem Shake!!!), Hanson, and the cast from SMASH… and you’ve got yourself a solid long run!
Guilty Pleasure #2: Recovery Bath Bombs
The best (BEST) part of a long run is when it’s over.
And the best part about it being over is a bath.
I have been known to actually do the crazy running thing and take an ice bath – but only when someone forces me to do it.
However, I almost ALWAYS take a long bath on days when I run. It’s kind of my thing. I have also really started to LOVE bath bombs.
My favorites are the ones from Lush but they are so ridiculously expensive I can’t really justify using them on the reg.
Second place are the bath bombs from Basin in Disney Springs. Especially the ones with confetti Mickey Mouse heads that float around in the bath once the bomb dissolves.
Third place are these bath bombs. I love that I can get them quickly from Amazon… and I love the variety!
Guilty Pleasure #3: Teen Vampire Drama
Ok so it’s not JUST teen vampire drama – but you get my point. Treadmills = Netflix, and knocking out a few miles at the gym is the perfect time to catch up on silly guilty pleasure shows. My most recent binge was Vampire Diaries. Right now, it’s Parenthood.
Side note – if you have any good Netflix series recommendations I would love to hear about them in the comments!
I’ve made my way through Rules of Engagement, Dr. Who, Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, How I Met Your Mother, and lots of other shows while walking and running on the treadmill. And honestly, sometimes, I’ll go to the gym and walk on the treadmill just to get another episode in!
Hey – I pay for that childcare – I might as well use it!
